Racially/Ethnically Concentrated Areas of Poverty (R/ECAP)

🏗️ Update

  • Racially or Ethnically Concentrated Areas of Poverty (R/ECAP) census tracts are now available for the most recent ACS tract shapes and data (2021). This indicator provides a count of R/ECAP census tracts within each geography.

  • This year’s update represents a major change in how mySidewalk provides this data. Previously, we have published data as provided by HUD, and harmonized that data to modern shapes. This data was calculated using the 2009-2013 ACS sample, and had not been updated in years. This year, we are using the methodology provided by HUD, and calculating R/ECAP using the most recent ACS data, for the most recent geographic shapes. For users, this represents a more timely, more accurate, and more reliable assessment of racially/ethnically concentrated areas of poverty in your communities.

🏗️ Update

Two geographies - City Council Districts and Neighborhoods - updated to the latest boundaries for all 50 states and Washington DC. All their associated data in the mySidewalk data library updated to match these new shapes.

The City Council Districts and Neighborhoods boundaries were modified to match their containing place (city, town, borough) boundary where applicable. In addition, boundary waters (Great Lakes, Atlantic Ocean, and Pacific Ocean) were removed and each shape had simplification techniques applied.

All states now have updated Neighborhood and City Council Districts.

Two geographies - City Council Districts and Neighborhoods - updated to the latest boundaries for 31 states and Washington DC. All their associated data in the mySidewalk data library updated to match these new shapes.

The City Council Districts and Neighborhoods boundaries were modified to match their containing place (city, town, borough) boundary where applicable. In addition, boundary waters (Great Lakes, Atlantic Ocean, and Pacific Ocean) were removed and each shape had simplification techniques applied.
