The latest homelessness data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is now available in mySidewalk. The 2025 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) joins ten prior years, giving you a complete 2015–2025 picture of homelessness in your community.

What's new

The 2025 AHAR data, covering:

• Homeless population — by gender, age, race, ethnicity, shelter status, and family status
• Homeless veterans — by gender, race, ethnicity, and shelter status
• Chronically homeless — by family status
• Unaccompanied homeless youth under age 18
• Homeless parenting youth (parent under age 25) and their children

County and metro estimates, nationwide. HUD publishes homelessness counts for Continuums of Care (CoCs) — service regions that rarely line up with the counties and metro areas you actually plan around. We now translate every CoC's published values into county, metropolitan, and micropolitan estimates using a consistent population-weighted methodology, back to 2015.

How the methodology works

Each CoC's published values are allocated to counties and metro areas based on where the CoC's population lives, using Census block-group population data. Where a geography matches a single CoC exactly, we assign the published value directly — no weighting needed.

The result: county-level homelessness data you can compare consistently across the country and across a decade. That's coverage HUD doesn't publish, and we haven't found it from any other nationwide source.

Where you can use it

This data is available at the nation, state, county, and metropolitan/micropolitan levels. Because it's built from CoC estimates, it can't be apportioned to custom geographies.
