One of Sidekick’s core capabilities is recommending data tailored to your specific problem or project. Just tell it what you’re working on or wondering about and Sidekick will search the entire mySidewalk data library to find relevant datasets and variables.

Learn more about how to get high-quality data recommendations from Sidekick, and check out the Sidekick Prompt Library for example queries.

If you’re a Seek user too, this capability unlocks a new workflow when you’re setting up a Seek Workspace: use Sidekick to find the right data to explore and then send the data list over to Seek, where you can easily add many additional data points, manipulate how the data is presented, and quickly explore it in charts and maps. (Note that you can use Sidekick for many of these activities as well, but Seek is most likely a better option if you’re analyzing data at scale - dozens of variables and many geographies at once.)

  1. The first step is to ask Sidekick for data recommendations. Navigate to the Sidekick chatbot and tell it what you’re looking for. For example: “What data should I look at to understand mental health conditions and access to care in Jackson County, Missouri?”

  2. When Sidekick responds with data it recommends, at the bottom of the message there will be an “Explore in Seek” icon. Click on the icon.

  3. This will open a sidebar to the right, which lets you configure a new Seek Workspace using the data from the message.

    1. Give the Workspace a name. (You can change this later.)

    2. Select the variables you want to include in your new Workspace. By default, all variables are selected, so deselect the variables you don’t want to include.

    3. Select at least one geography. To do this, you might need to scroll down. If your message didn’t specify a geography, then Sidekick will assume your default geography. (You can change this later.)

  4. Click “Send to Seek”.

You now have a new Workspace in Seek, started by data that Sidekick, your AI community data assistant, found for you.

Things to know

  • At this time, you can only send data from individual Sidekick messages. As we continue to enhance this feature, we expect to make it possible to send data selected from an entire conversational thread with Sidekick.

  • At this time, each time send data from Sidekick to Seek, it will create a new Sidekick Workspace. We’re considering adding the ability to edit an existing Workspace. Please let us know if this would be an important feature for you.
