Start with Why

We believe data can change the world—but most public service organizations aren't built to do data science and most data science tools aren't built for public service organizations. We exist to help close that gap, to give public servants and community builders the tools to change the world.

As such, people in many different roles with varied backgrounds in the public and private sectors use mySidewalk for many different purposes, but most of them all boil down to one big idea: democratize data.

With mySidewalk, you can:

  • Access 1,000s of indicators available at nearly every geography in the U.S, including an expansive library of data on the social determinants of health.

  • Create rich, interactive data visualizations.

  • Learn something new about your community.

  • Prompt people to ask better questions.

  • Demonstrate accountability and transparency.

  • Share mobile-friendly, ADA accessible interactive reports.

  • Tell interesting, relatable stories using data.

  • Show the impact of your work.

Learn about Who

So far, our application has been used by hundreds of different organizations looking at areas as small as one Census Tract, to as big as whole states. Our user base is growing with new users coming on board and new types of uses being explored all the time. Some common user groups are listed below:

  • Redevelopment Agencies

  • Health Departments

  • Fire Departments

  • City Planners

  • Private Foundations

  • Transportation Consultants

  • Architects

  • Community Organizations

  • Metropolitan Planning Organizations

  • City Councils

  • State Departments

  • Maybe you?

Our platform is made to be user friendly and flexible. You don’t need a degree in data science, design, or geoprocessing (or even know what geoprocessing means) to create a report that tells the story of your community and uses your data to express problems and formulate solutions.

Our intuitive design makes accessing information and telling your story something anyone in your organization can do, and anyone in your city can understand. We work to make data accessible, transparent, and easy to use so anyone can create and explore our platform.

Bonus: Our shared documents are now fully ADA compliant and meet WCAG Version 2.0 Level AA accessibility guidelines. Read more about our commitment to making data accessible to the entire public.
